Admission Requirements

BBI is part of the Sydney College of Divinity. Students enrol for studies within the SCD through the Registry Office of BBI.

Admission to the Bachelor of Theology or Diploma in Theology or BBI Certificate Theology for Beginners is normally on the basis of results gained in the Higher School Certificate (or its equivalent) which would qualify the applicant to enrol at an Australian University. A copy of either the HSC certificate or birth certificate must accompany the application for admission.

Provisional admission

Provisional admission may be granted to:
    a) mature age students: those who have reached the age of 21 years before January 1 of the year in which they seek admission;
    b) special entry: those who can show their capacity to pursue studies at a tertiary level.
When a student has satisfactorily completed seventy-two credit points, provisional status is removed.
For postgraduate programs admission is on the basis of a previous degree or diploma (three years’ full-time equivalent tertiary study) from an Australian university or its equivalent. The transcript for the qualifying degree or diploma must accompany applications for admission to any graduate/postgraduate program.

Special Provisions

Students for whom English is a second language are required to demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English, with an IELTS score of 6.5 or more. Under special circumstances a student with a score of 6 may be provisionally admitted. For further information please contact the Registrar on 61 2  9847 0030

As a distance education provider the BBI is not able to offer international students in Australia on student visas admission to its awards or registration as non-award students.

Students who have failed a course unit twice at another Member Institution of the Sydney College of Divinity will need to show special cause why admission to BBI would be granted. Notwithstanding the above, BBI reserves the right to refuse admission to any student.

Credit for Previous Studies

Students admitted to award courses may apply for credit for previous study. Credit is granted for work completed or concurrently being undertaken at other Member Institutes of the SCD, provided that this work conforms to the requirements set for the program.
Credit may be granted for comparable work completed or concurrently being undertaken at an approved level at any recognised tertiary institution outside the SCD. The maximum amount of credit is 144 credit points for undergraduate and 54 credit points for graduate programs, 18 credit points for Master of Theology program.
Applications for credit should be made at the time of admission, and be accompanied by:
(a)     a completed Credit Application Form,
(b)     an authorised transcript of the studies undertaken,
(c)     the official description of course units completed at the other institution(s).
